Trump Skips Saudis in “Anti-Terror” Sweep

Tony Cartalucci Land Destroyer Report 27 January 2017 The Washington Post in its recent article, “ Trump orders ISIS plan, talks with Putin and gives Bannon national security role ,” attempts to portray US President Donald Trump’s recent moves as “anti-terror” in nature. In particular, the Washington Post states: President Trump on Saturday ordered the Pentagon to devise a strategy to defeat the Islamic State and restructured the National Security Council to include his controversial top political adviser as he forged a partnership with Russian President Vladimir Putin in their first official phone call. While the Washington Post attempts to further divide and distract Americans with implications of a pro-Russian stance by the new US administration, the paper skips past crucial aspects of President Trump’s “ISIS plan.” The Post continues, stating: Even prior to the memo, military officials had been at work developing potential actions for Trump and Def...

Trump Orders Military to Prepare for World War

Tom Eley World Socialist Web Site 29 January 2017 During a visit to the Pentagon on Friday, President Donald Trump issued an executive action calling for stepped up violence in Syria and a vast expansion of the US military, including its nuclear arsenal, to prepare for war with “near-peer competitors”—a reference to nuclear-armed China and Russia—and “regional challengers,” such as Iran. “I’m signing an executive action to begin a great rebuilding of the armed services of the United States,” Trump said during the signing of the document, entitled “Rebuilding the US Armed Forces.” During the visit, his first to the Pentagon, Trump signed a second order, “Protecting the US from Terrorist Attacks by Foreign Nationals,” that freezes visa and immigration applications from predominantly Muslim countries. The order threatens to block refugees from finding sanctuary, workers from taking jobs, students from attending school, and the unification of families (See, “ White H...

Trump Bans Muslims from Entering the United States, Launches “Holy War against Radical Islam”

Prof. Michel Chossudovsky Global Research 25 January 2017 Trump’s Executive Order to ban Muslims from entering the US, will have devastating consequences both in the US and internationally.  It also has a bearing on America’s military agenda in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan and Pakistan. In his inauguration speech, President Donald Trump called for  the “civilized world” to unite “against radical Islamic terrorism, which we will eradicate completely from the face of the Earth.” It is worth noting that Trump’s Executive Order to ban Muslims coincides with the confirmation of Rep. Mike Pompeo as head of the CIA.  Pompeo is a Tea Party Republican, member of the House Intelligence Committee, with little experience in the practice of  US intelligence.  Pompeo favors the reinstatement of “waterboarding, among other torture techniques”. He views Muslims as a threat to Christianity and Western civilization. He is identifie...

EDITORIAL: Happy Invasion Day

Ne News 26 January 2017   Today is January 26, and even though I will be celebrating Australia Day, I will be doing so with a heavy heart due to the murder of our indigenous people, so in the heart of Ne News , it will be Invasion Day, which is a day that is not worth celebrating. Those who want to mourn will be accused by the Mainstream Media of denying Australian history, but it is worth noting that Australia Day only commemorate the founding of Sydney and not the other parts of Australia. But in actual fact, the Mainstream Media are the ones who are denying history. And the Mainstream Media in Australia has also been denying the horrible crimes that were committed against the indigenous people of Australia, and most of this historical revisionism is coming from the far-right wing media outlets such as those owned by the American media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who gave up his Australian citizenship in 1985 and therefore gave up his right to have a say in Australia. Tak...

The U.S. Voters’ Rights Amendment: People Making Policy

William John Cox Global Research 25 January 2017 The 2016 election just cost $5 billion and produced two major candidates who were despised by a majority of the People. Given the choice between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump , 45 percent of voting-age Americans did not cast a ballot, and only 46.5 percent of those who did vote choose Trump. Almost three million more voters selected Clinton over Trump, who prevailed only because of the archaic Electoral College. Elected by only one-quarter of the People, his policies, successes, and failures will affect everyone—including the 75 percent of voters who did not hire Donald Trump to be their CEO. The U.S. Government Has Failed. Increasingly dominated by a plutocracy composed of corporations and the wealthy elite, the two-party electoral system of the United States is almost completely dysfunctional. The parties do not produce viable candidates for the presidency, and the candidates do not address the most cri...

Brexit On a Slow Track to Oblivion?

Stephen Lendman Global Research 25 January 2017 Prime Minister Theresa May’s support for Brexit is more rhetorical than real. An  audio recording  leaked to London’s Guardian last May caught her as home secretary, saying “I think the economic arguments are clear. I think being part of a 500-million trading bloc is significant for us.”  I think, as I was saying to you a little earlier, that one of the issues is that a lot of people will invest here in the UK because it is the UK in Europe. If we were not in Europe, I think there would be firms and companies who would be looking to say, do they need to develop a mainland Europe presence rather than a UK presence? So I think there are definite benefits for us in economic terms. There are definitely things we can do as members of the European Union that I think keep us more safe. Her view on Brexit as home secretary contrasts markedly with what she said as prime minister. “Brexit means Brexit,” s...

Belgium to Arrest Former Israeli Foreign Minister for “War Crimes”

Middle East Monitor Middle East Monitor 20 January 2017 A Belgian court has ordered the arrest of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Tzipi Livni, when she steps off the plane on her arrival in the Belgian capital Brussels on 23 January, official EU sources revealed on Thursday. On 23 June 2010, a group of victims filed a complaint in Belgium to the Federal Prosecutor against certain Israeli civilian and military officials at the time, including Tzipi Livni, for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in the Gaza Strip, according to  Palestinian News Network (PNN) . The Federal Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Livni would be intercepted by the Federal Judicial Police during her stay in Belgium to be heard and questioned following the complaint lodged against her and that it would ensure the necessary follow-up to this case. Livni was the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time of the Israeli military operation  “Ca...

EDITORIAL: The Collapse Is Nigh

Ne News 13 January 2017 Over the past twelve months, the European Union had to go through a lot of bumps in the road, most notably the Brexit in June last year when the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union. But there are reports that the collapse of the European Union is now inevitable as the Independent in the United Kingdom is reporting that German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel says that the breakup of the European Union is no longer unthinkable (http://www4.dr-rath-foundation.org/News/2017/January.html#comment0513). And while Ne News last year predicted that the European Union would collapse in 2016, it could be this year (2017) or next year (2018) that the European Union will collapse, and in turn, the collapse of the New World Order. While Ne News is opposed to these superstates, it is worth noting that Ne News (as internationalists) supports international collaboration on major issues such as climate change; cultural exchange and international solidarity, and...

Trump Nominee for Attorney General Defends Right-Wing, Anti-Democratic Agenda

Patrick Martin World Socialist Web Site 11 January 2017 The first hearing on confirmation of a Trump cabinet selection, Senator Jeff Sessions , the nominee for attorney general, demonstrated two central facts of American politics in 2017: the Trump administration will be the most right-wing and repressive in American history, and the congressional Democrats will do nothing to oppose it. At Tuesday’s hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sessions defended a long litany of ultra-right positions hostile to democratic rights. These include his support for the Supreme Court decision gutting the Voting Rights Act and his embrace of state actions to limit voter access to the polls in the name of fighting nonexistent “vote fraud.” Sessions declared his backing for keeping open the US detention camp at Guantanamo Bay and for the panoply of anti-democratic measures undertaken by the Bush and Obama administrations in the name of the “war on terror:” the Patrio...

EDITORIAL: Israeli Lobby, Crimes Against Humanity and the World

Ne News 10 January 2017 It is now just around 10 days before Donald Trump is sworn in as the forty-fifth President of the United States of America, and already his cabinet has attracted controversy, including a white nationalist and an opponent of the public education system (and supporter of charter schools) as Secretary of Education. And in addition to this, he has lashed out at critics, and there are some in the alternative media supporting Trump, despite claims to be "independent" (I'm looking at you Alex Jones of Infowars fame). But why did he get elected? It is worth noting that around 44 percent of eligible voters in the United States of America STAYED HOME at the time of the election, which means that around 56 percent of Americans voted, and it can be argued that neither Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump can claim a mandate to represent the people of the United States of America due to the fact that in reality, they may have only got the vote of 25 percent ...

Israeli Oppression and Human Rights Violations against Palestinians in 2016

Staat van Beleg Staat van Beleg 7 January 2017 In the month of December 2016  Staat van Beleg  could list  726 human rights violations  (and  186 reports/analyses ). The highest number we could document so far since the start of Staat van Beleg in July 2015.  2016 In Numbers 2016 was another difficult year for the Palestinian people. We could document almost  7000 violations  ( about 18 abuses every single day! ) on the Palestinian people, their land and their properties by Israel. About  150 Palestinians have been killed last year , ranging from a baby of several months old to a man of 85 years old. We will show you the numbers through some graphics below. We would like to thank you all for taking notice and for following us. We wish you a happy 2017 and let’s hope this year will bring the Palestinian people closer to a solution for the cruel and ongoing Israeli occupation. By spreading awaren...

“Undercover Investigation”: How Many British MPs Are Working for Israel?

Jonathan Cook Jonathan Cook 8 January 2017 Al Jazeera are to be congratulated on an  undercover investigation  exposing something most of us could probably have guessed: that some Israeli embassy staff in the UK – let’s not pussy around, Mossad agents – are working with senior political activists and politicians in the Conservative and Labour parties to subvert their own parties from within , and skew British foreign policy so that it benefits Israeli, rather than British, interests. One cannot really blame Israel for doing this. Most states promote their interests as best they can. But one can and should expose and shame the British politicians who are collaborating with Israel in further harming Britain’s representative democracy. It is not as though these people cannot be easily identified. They even advertise what they are up to. They are members of the Conservative and Labour Friends of Israel. They dominate both parliamentary parti...

Post-Brexit: Imagine a New European Community

Martin Winiecki Global Research 26 June 2016 The news of Brexit triggered shock waves around the globe, chaos in stock markets and plunging Pound and Euro exchange rates. As the surprise settles an even more uncomfortable sobering spreads: the disintegration of the globalized power blocks may happen much faster than we have originally imagined. Our sense of stability and reliability to the political and societal order we have grown accustomed to may not reflect reality. The British referendum has opened Pandora’s box; similar initiatives for leaving the EU now pop up in several countries, as Scotland, Northern Ireland and even London consider leaving the UK in order to stay in the EU. At this stage we enter a roller coaster without clarity of where we will arrive. Nobody can precisely know how long the EU, a complex economic and political union ailing with many crises already, will still be able to keep up, but its disintegration is under way. After their vot...
