Well, after a couple of months of debate at Westminster, the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill, also known as Brexit has received Royal Assent on 16 March 2017, which means that negotiations on the country's exit from the European Union will begin within days under Article 50 of the European Union Constitution (also known as the Lisbon Treaty).
So, what does the withdrawal from the European Union mean for the people of the United Kingdom? Well, the United Kingdom will no longer be a member of the European Union, and therefore cannot adopt the single European currency, the Euro (there has been much debate on whether or not the United Kingdom will adopt the Euro prior to the Brexit vote). And despite the negative campaign from the mainstream media and most politicians (both Labour, Conservatives and Liberal Democrats among others), the sky will not be caving in. Although, this moment will decide the future of the United Kingdom as well as the European Union.
There is now talk of a second independence vote in Scotland (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proposed_second_Scottish_independence_referendum), which voted overwhelmingly to stay in the European Union (as highlighted in the map on the side) along with Northern Ireland and London, while England (excluding London) and Wales voted to leave (blue is leave and gold is remain).
And despite campaigning for independence, as mentioned in the editorial a couple of weeks ago, the UK Independence Party (UKIP) actually supports many of the policies of the European Union, including mass privatisation (which as highlighted many times on Ne News is a pillar of fascism), including replacing the National Health Service with health insurance.
Speaking of the NHS, the Brexit will ultimately mean that there will actually be more money to spend on the NHS as well as essential services as membership dues will end. And it will not be the end of cooperation between the UK and Europe, as a lot of cooperation in Europe don't need an European Union to work
There is also a possibility that the collapse of the European Union is now inevitable with a single even equivalent to Brexit is enough to see the European Union collapse (http://www4.dr-rath-foundation.org/News/2017/March.html#comment0571). So could the European Union collapse within the next two years? Only time will tell.
