Throughout the world, political parties of all stripes and colours are moving towards the right, with those who are referred to as "liberals" moving over to the right, and "conservatives" moving towards the far-right. The Democrats, for example, have abandoned their main supporter base and have moved from liberalism to conservatism, especially under Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. The Republicans, have moved from conservatism to fascism under George W. Bush and Donald Trump. It has become apparent that both Democrats and Republicans are now the representatives of big business in the United States of America, and are both willing to do the bidding of big business, such as tax cuts and the dismantling of the social safety net.
In Australia, the conservative government of Malcolm Turnbull has cut funding for social services (and freezing Newstart Allowance, which has not increased in real terms since 1994), Medicare (the universal health care system in Australia), public broadcasters (ABC and SBS) and have given tax cuts to the big end of town (https://independentaustralia.net/politics/politics-display/australia-cannot-afford-another-turnbull-morrison-budget,11490). But what is also worth noting is that there has been an increase in funding national security in order to fight dissent in Australia (http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2018/05/09/budg-m09.html?view=mobilearticle).
Speaking of fighting dissent, the Christian Social Union (CSU, the Bavarian sister party of the conservative Christian Democratic Union which is led by Angela Merkel) in Bavaria is pushing through laws (allegedly in the name of fighting terrorism), which 30 000 locals protested against, as it is a move towards a surveillance society, but the CSU claims that this is about implementing the EU's new data privacy directive and help police to identify suspected terrorists more efficiently (https://sputniknews.com/europe/201805111064358221-germans-protest-police-bill-in-munich/).
It is worth noting that the European Union (as well as the other various superstates that are in the process of being created) are nothing more than police states, and that these superstates are supported by the far-right. In fact, in 2005, Angela Merkel said:
When we hear politicians talk about "democracy", we need to be skeptical about it, as it is possible that they are just paying lip-service to democracy and don't care about it. The major parties throughout the world are paying lip-service to democracy, while at the same time talking away our democracy. And no doubt, far-right wingers who claim to be "democrats" are just as bad (if not, worse).
Democracy wasn't handed to us on a plate. We need to fight to save democracy. And no, voting on The Voice doesn't count as democracy.

The people of Germany have no right to democracy and a free market economy in the future! The far-right don't believe in democracy, even though in the European Parliament, far-right wing parties use the term "democracy" to disguise their hatred. And it could be argued that certain "liberals" (who are nothing more than far-right wingers in disguise) hate democracy as well.
